On December 28, local time, UN Secretary-General Guterres delivered a New Year speech.

Guterres said that in 2022, 100 million people around the world will migrate to escape war, wildfires, drought, poverty and hunger. In 2023, we need peace more than ever.

He called for peace among each other and dialogue to end conflict; peace with nature and the climate for a more sustainable world; peace in the family so women and girls can live with dignity and in a safe environment ; to achieve peace in the streets and communities, with full protection of the rights and interests of all.

Guterres emphasized that in 2023, let us put peace at the core of our words and deeds, and let us work together to make 2023 the year of restoring peace in our lives, in our families, in our world.
