Iscotrizinol is a new type of UV absorber with a high absorption rate and is an alcohol-soluble and oil-soluble UVB absorber with an absorption wavelength range 280-320 nm. It is compatible with oily ingredients and has a beneficial effect on the sun, and is often added to sunscreen oils.

Scientific Facts:

Iscotrizinol is a broad spectrum UV absorber, absorbing UVB as well as UVA rays. UV radiation is an important cause of sunburn, premature aging of the skin and in the development of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.

 

A Chemical sunscreen agent that's very oil soluble and requires relatively low concentrations to achieve high SPF values (it gives an SPF 12.5 at the max allowed concentration of 10%). It protects in the UVB and UVA II range with a peak protection at 310 nm. It's particularly suitable for water-repellent and water-resistant formulations.

 

Regarding photostability, Iscotrizinol is super photostable. It looses 10% of its SPF protection abilities only in 25 hours when 2 hours counts already as "photostable" in the world of chemical sunscreens.

 

Features and Applications/Product Characteristics

Iscotrizinol is capable of absorbing 270-340 nm of UV light, with a peak absorption of 311 nm. With good compatibility, low volatility, good thermal stability and high absorption efficiency, it is suitable for sun protection products and care products.

The general dosage is 0.5-2%.

Iscotrizinol is characterised by a low content of impurities deriving from the preparation process, and by low APHA colour values. The compound according to the invention is obtained by reacting cyanuryl chloride with one equivalent of para-aminobenzoic acid, reacting the intermediate obtained with two equivalents of 2-ethylhexyl-4-aminobenzoate, activating the carboxy group, for example by formation of acyl chloride, and final reaction with tert-butylamine.

The compound according to the invention is a UV-B filter which can be advantageously used in cosmetic formulations.
